Convention and Revolution of Waste Packaging

Leave a Message at the Beep

pactec tradition or changeI recently decided to leave a message on my voicemail after continued obnoxious pollster calls!

"Thanks for calling, but I’m not available right now. I am currently making some changes in my life, so please leave your name after the beep. If I do not return your call . . . you are one of the changes!"

Now that’s pretty funny regardless of who you are, but let’s face it . . . nobody likes change, even when we know that success requires change.

Think about this, when a tree stops growing, there is a scientific term for this condition . . . it’s called death.

Tradition . . .

Why can’t change become tradition? That’s the real question right? Let’s face it, we live in such an innovative time in our lives, where new technologies are being discovered and created faster than marketing can start on the first implementation of that idea.

Allan Bloom, a world renown philospher once said:

“As soon as tradition has come to be recognized as tradition, it is dead.”

Change . . .

Change happens, with us . . . or in spite of us, and the “What was” has turned into the “Remember when?”. We can either embrace it, or watch it pass us by. We can take advantage of the innovation, time savings, and bottom line profitability in change, or stay comforted in the same old . . same old.

I do understand and appreciate the resistance to change, however characteristics of change can mirror many of the characteristics of tradition. If you compare both, you will see that change doesn’t negate tradition, but rather is founded on traditional methods. It builds on them. It grows on the fundamental basics of tradition.

Let’s face it . . . if there was never a tradition, there would be no foundation for change.

Convention and Revolution

When looking at the world of waste packaging, there are two user groups. There are those of convention and those of revolution. Conventional hard-sided packaging created the new technology of soft-sided packaging by it's own need for cost saving cuts. Here are just some of the many attributes that make soft-sided waste packaging the only option for changing traditional packaging methods.

    1. Obvious cost savings

    2. Faster lead times

    3. Transportation cost savings

    4. Transported by truck, rail, or barge

    5. Optimal option for projects in remote locations

    6. Can have IP1/IP2 ratings

    7. Can be custom manufactured in spite of component size

I think having a message that says, "Leave a message after the tone..." is as useless as the airlines telling you how to fasten a seat-belt.

I know what to do after the beep, already.
