Bespoke PacTec Flexible Packaging Allows Sellafield to Reach Key Milestones

As part of the Sellafield Ram and Bogie Replacement Project, a key milestone has been reached in the removal of the existing Ram and Bogie from SP Bay which has been in sita for decades. Working in extremely challenging conditions, a number of hurdles were overcome with the use of a bespoke PacTec bag package.

A further project to safely remove old ILW fuel skips from a legacy storage pond at Sellafield used bespoke PacTec packaging to provide a safe and fit for purpose solution as a key activity to risk reduction for the Sellafield site.

To quote Dorothy Gradden, Sellafield Head of Legacy Pond Projects, “PacTec has a really innovative product that has revolutionised the way we package items taken out of Legacy Ponds. PacTec worked closely with the operations teams in providing bespoke package solutions; taking into account size, containment and remote handling requirements.”

She goes on to say, “the use of PacTec bags has accelerated export of hazardous waste with significant dose reductions for our operators.”
