MEET THE TEAM: Claire McCrary | Director of Human Resources

Last Updated On Jul 21, 2021

A psychologist, peacemaker, lawyer, teacher, and spreadsheet master walk into a room…

While this isn't the opening to a great joke, it is a typical moment in the day and life of PacTec's Director of Human Resources, Claire McCrary. An avid planner, Claire schedules her workday to ensure that everything on her list makes it to the "checked" status; however, when that unexpected curveball is pitched, she steps up to the plate and is a homerun hitter! Recently Claire directed PacTec's annual open enrollment and benefits fair all while finalizing our annual affirmative action plan analysis. If that's not a jack of all trades, I don't know what is.

As the Director of Human Resources, Claire is challenged with myriad HR, payroll, organizational, business, and compliance goals. Additionally, her open-door policy gives our employees a confidential place to discuss company benefits, employee life changes, learning and development, and conflict resolution. Sometimes, however, she has the daunting task of employee reprimands, write-ups, and terminations.

"What I love about this position is telling PacTec's story to potential recruits and finding the perfect fit when looking to fill our open positions," she says. "The excitement of onboarding new team members never gets old and re-energizes me each time I educate them on all of the great things we offer as an employer. COVID made life challenging for us, as we pivoted to remote work where appropriate while still meeting our manufacturing demands as a CISA essential critical infrastructure employer. Ensuring the safety of our on-site team members was critical, as was maintaining open lines of communication company wide. I am very proud of the way we handled that and how much I learned in the process." To learn more about PacTec's employment opportunities, click here.

With evolving labor, EEO, and discrimination regulations along with federal and state laws changing in the blink of an eye, staying abreast of the expectations has prompted Claire to enroll in Tulane University's School of Law.

If you haven't realized it by now, Claire is self-motivated and thrives in the eye of the storm. Amid a global pandemic, our resident superwoman found her Clark Kent (she calls him Mark), got engaged, began building a home with him, managed the virtual schooling needs of her four children, and was elected to the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee. No doubt, her experience as a former schoolteacher, community board member, marathon runner, and owner of a 20-acre farm helped prepare her for this beautiful, chaotic life.
